We have been fortunate enough to travel on some of the best road trips in NSW and have made some incredible memories in the process. Our convenient location near Penrith NSW means we are only a few hours from the North & South Coast plus inland towns. The possibilities for weekend trips or extended stays are literally endless!!
Some of our most recent trips include visiting Mudgee, Toowoon Bay on the Central Coast, Waterfall Way which is on the North Coast and Kiama on the South Coast. These locations are as close as 1.5 hours away so are easily accessible over a weekend.
Below, we’ll take you through our local recommendations for the best road trips in NSW!!

We get asked so often where we recommend to go by our hirers! We can confidently recommend Mudgee NSW!!

After our recent trip we thought we’d share OUR TOP TEN places to visit while in Mudgee:
- Lowe Family Wine Company, Mudgee – Grab an antipasto platter, bottle of wine & a picnic blanket from the restaurant and relax overlooking the dam & vineyard. Incredible scenery and a relaxed vibe.
- Pieter van Gent Winery & Vineyard – Perfect PortsIf you’re a port lover (like we are) add Pieter Van Gent to your list. Plenty of photo opportunities here as well.
- Thistle Hill Organic Winery – Offering Organic Wines, Thistle has something a little different. Amazing views & the vineyard comes right up to the cellar door.
- The Olive Nest and 1838 Wines – Enjoy a tasting platter of olive oils, dipping vinegars, spreads & warm olives (Plus wines!) Super friendly staff.
- Cafe 89 – Yummy breakfasts, excellent coffee and reasonable prices. Located in the heart of Mudgee.
- Mudgee Honey Haven – We were surprised to find a range of honey infused wines & liquors as well as honey derived beauty products and yummy treats.
- Burnbrae Wines Mudgee – Take a trip through Burnbrae’s best whites & reds while sitting in the sunshine on the deck. Family owned & run vineyard. (Karina rated their Moscato as the best in Mudgee )
- Woolpack Hotel – If you love Chinese definitely head to Jumbucks Chinese in the Woolpack. Recommended by our hosts and it didn’t disappoint.
- Blacklea Vineyard Mudgee – Hans made Oils, Marinades, Marinated Olives and Nuts, what more could you ask for? All made with love and from years of experience.
- High Valley Cheese Co. – Wow, these guys know how to make cheese! The BEST Brie and Feta we have had (we may have even brought every flavour of Feta they make lol)
While in Mudgee we stayed at EVAMOR Campgrounds which we found on the Wiki Camps app.
The campgrounds were private & offered lots of sites right on the river bank. The property is only a short drive into town & you’re also welcome to have a campfire during your stay. (Plus the owner is a top bloke!)
Mudgee definitely surprised us, hopefully it will surprise you too.
Toowoon Bay – Central Coast

This weekend was our turn to take MALIBULICIOUS on a getaway! (YAY!!!!) We ventured to Toowoon Bay Holiday Park on the central coast. What a wonderful caravan park right on Shelly Beach . It was perfect for our boys with loads of activities to keep them busy. We were even fortunate enough to see a pod of whales making their way along the coastline – such an incredible sight!
The Entrance is the perfect escape from Sydney, with its close proximity & amazing beaches! It was the ideal place to relax, unwind and spend time with our boys. We thoroughly enjoyed our weekend!
If you’re looking for ideas on where to stay or go while in The Central Coast here’s a few places we ventured to during our short stay…

BENDEMEER TAMWORTH ARMIDALE WATERFALL WAY DORRIGO SOUTH WEST ROCKS NORAH HEADS
What a spontaneous trip! It was the first time ever we left home with no destination in mind We also weren’t meant to be going away but decided last minute to just pack up & go – the perks of caravanning!
Ironically we had none of our own caravans available so we borrowed our in-laws Malibu Wildtracker lol
All up it was a 6 Day Trip
We stayed at a combination of WikiCamps Free camps & Caravan Parks
Bendemeer Camping Area (Was super cheap ONLY $5.00 per night!)
Dorrigo Showgrounds (Only $15.00 per night or $25.00 with power & water)
Ingenia Holidays South West Rocks
Central Coast Holiday Parks
Waterfall Way links Armidale & Coffs Harbour. It’s 185km through stunning rolling hills, rainforest, river valleys & of course as the name states, Waterfalls. All the recent rain meant everything was so green & all the waterfalls were flowing steadily, so it was the perfect time to go! We visited Wollomombi Falls, Edor Falls & Sherrard Falls. Danger Falls in Dorrigo were closed due to the rain.
The kids really wanted to go to the beach so we drove down to South West Rocks. The staff were sooo friendly at Ingenia Holiday Park we were super impressed. The park is so well set up & we were lucky enough to score a riverfront site. The kids had a ball catching crabs and fishing in the river, they weren’t lucky enough to catch anything this time. Unfortunately we encountered some bad weather so we left SWR on the hunt for the sun.
We love the Central Coast and decided to stay at Norah Heads Holiday Park. It was a well cared for park & a sister park to Toowoon Bay where we ventured to late last year. We only stayed a night but headed down to Soldiers Beach which was stunning!
